Netanyahu Claims Iran Attempted to Assassinate His Son

On Monday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that Iran had attempted to assassinate one of his two sons, although he did not specify which son was targeted. During a phone interview with Israel’s Channel 14, Netanyahu expressed concern over the security of Gadi Eisenkot, the former army chief and his political rival in the upcoming elections on October 27.

He advocated for Eisenkot to receive round-the-clock protection, emphasizing that such security is “not a luxury” and warning that without it, “the Iranians will succeed.” Netanyahu has two sons, Yair and another unnamed son, with Yair reportedly spending extended periods in Miami since early 2024 under Shin Bet protection. His presence in the U.S. has raised concerns in Israel regarding the costs of his security and potential risks to the area.

Prominent Israeli journalist Amit Segal mentioned that the alleged assassination attempt had been known for months but was under a gag order.
