IsDB Praises Yobe State's Readiness for SmartEdu Project
The Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) expressed satisfaction with Yobe State's preparedness for the Smart Education (SmartEdu) project during a visit to the Government House in Damaturu. Dr Imtiaz Alam, Operations Team Leader – Social Infrastructure at the IsDB's Abuja Area Office, noted the impressive commitment from the state government, which is nearing the project commencement stage.
The IsDB plans to move to the project appraisal stage after internal reviews and approvals. This appraisal will finalize partnership arrangements and implementation modalities across Yobe, Jigawa, and Niger states, facilitated by the Federal Ministry of Finance.
Implementation is expected to begin in 2027, contingent on completing necessary reviews. Yobe State Deputy Governor Idi Barde Gubana, representing Governor Mai Mala Buni, praised the IsDB for its partnership, emphasizing the initiative's potential to improve education quality and infrastructure, especially after the disruptions caused by insurgency.
The state government has prioritized education revival since 2019, establishing new schools and recruiting over 4,000 staff.
