Lagos Social Workers Promote Unity for International Day

On March 21, 2026, social workers in Lagos State, Nigeria, led by Mr. Modupeola Sahid Adebambo, Chairperson of the Nigerian Association of Social Workers (NASOW) Lagos State Chapter, are calling for unity and harmony in society. This initiative coincides with the commemoration of International Social Work Day, which occurs annually on the third Tuesday of March.

Adebambo highlighted the growing divisions within families, workplaces, and communities, exacerbated by social challenges such as political polarization, ethnic and religious discrimination. The theme for the 2026 observance is "Co-Build Hope and Harmony," reflecting the need for collective action to tackle social issues.

The NASOW Lagos Chapter plans to engage in media outreach, school programs, and community dialogues to raise awareness about social issues and promote values of unity, respect, and peaceful coexistence. They aim to strengthen families and foster social cohesion, emphasizing the role of social workers in safeguarding vulnerable populations.
