Lagos Celebrates Female Sanitation Workers with Health Initiative

On International Women's Day, Lagos State honored female sanitation workers at an event held at the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) headquarters in Ijora Olopa. The event, organized by LAWMA's Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Muyiwa Gbadegesin, aimed to appreciate the vital role these women play in maintaining environmental sanitation.

During the celebration, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu approved a health insurance policy for 16,000 street sweepers, who will soon receive health insurance cards under the Ilera Eko program, enabling them to access free medical services. The cards are expected to be issued within the coming week.

The initiative also included health screenings and reward packages to promote healthcare and improve the welfare of the workers. Notable partners, such as Agatem Pharmaceutical, provided medical supplies, while the Toleram Group donated food items and financial support.

Five outstanding female street sweepers were honored with awards for their dedicated service.
