Peter Obi Praises Troops for Foiling Kidnap Attempt

Peter Obi, the former Governor of Anambra State and a member of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), praised Nigerian troops for their successful operation in thwarting a kidnapping attempt at the Federal Government Girls College (FGGC) in Monguno, Borno State. In a statement posted on his official social media page on July 19, coinciding with his birthday, Obi described the successful operation as the greatest birthday gift he could receive.

He acknowledged the swift response of the troops, which prevented what could have been a major tragedy in the country's educational sector. Obi emphasized the importance of ensuring that schools remain safe environments for learning and urged the federal government to strengthen security measures, adopt proactive intelligence-driven approaches, and provide adequate resources to enhance the welfare and operational effectiveness of security agencies.

He also expressed sympathy for the families of students at FGGC Monguno and called for continued support for security personnel in their fight against insecurity.
