Itsekiri Group Raises Alarm Over Threat to Olu of Warri

The Itsekiri Nation Association of Canada has expressed alarm over an alleged threat to the Olu of Warri, Ogiam Atuwatse III, regarding his scheduled traditional visit to the Itsekiri community in Ugbolokposo, Uvwie Local Government Area. The association has urged Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and security agencies to take proactive steps to ensure the monarch's safety.

They described attempts by certain individuals to prevent the royal visit as provocative actions that could inflame inter-community tensions. The statement, signed by President Fiogho Tonw, Secretary Owen Fregen, and member Tosan Eyid, emphasized that the Olu of Warri has a legitimate historical tradition to visit any Itsekiri community peacefully coexisting with their Urhobo neighbors.

The association condemned the actions of those allegedly exploiting community sensitivities for political gain and called for the governor to publicly defend the Itsekiri people's rights. They also appealed to the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services to ensure the safety of the Olu and his entourage during the visit.
