Governor Namadi Addresses Absenteeism Among LG Chairmen

On Tuesday, Jigawa State Governor Umar Namadi made unscheduled visits to several local government secretariats, including Kiyawa, Jahun, Miga, Kafin Hausa, Auyo, and Hadejia. His inspections uncovered significant absenteeism among council chairmen and senior officials, prompting him to declare a crackdown on truancy at the grassroots level.

During the 2024 swearing-in of the 27 local government chairmen, Namadi had previously warned against absenteeism and promised sanctions for any chairman found guilty. Expressing his disappointment, he described the situation as undemocratic and unacceptable, stressing that council chairmen must be physically present to fulfill their responsibilities to the electorate.

Namadi stated that local government councils are crucial for governance and must not be managed remotely. He announced plans to summon all council chairmen for a meeting to address the issue and reiterated that his administration would not tolerate such behavior.
