Jigawa Residents Pray for Rainfall Amid Dry Spell

Residents of Basirka town in Gwaram Local Government Area, Jigawa State, conducted a three-day special prayer known as Salatul Istisqa from Saturday to Monday, seeking divine intervention for rainfall amid a prolonged dry spell impacting their agricultural activities. Hundreds of participants, including farmers, Islamic scholars, elderly individuals, women, and youths, gathered at the Eid ground on Monday for a two-rak’ah special prayer led by the Chief Imam of Basirka, Sheikh Sanunu Basirka.

The community organized this prayer due to the seriousness of the situation, as many farmers rely on rain-fed agriculture. Sheikh Sanunu urged residents to seek forgiveness from Allah and increase their acts of worship and charity.

He emphasized that the dry spell should be viewed as a test and an opportunity for sincere repentance. Malam Ibrahim, a 65-year-old farmer, expressed concern over the impact of the dry spell on his maize and millet farms, while another resident, Haruna Aliyu Basirka, noted the anxiety among farmers due to the halted rains during the farming season.
