Jigawa Community Prays for Rain Amid Drought Crisis

Residents of Basirka community in Gwaram Local Government Area, Jigawa State, conducted a three-day special prayer from Saturday to Monday, seeking divine intervention for rainfall due to a prolonged dry spell. The prayer, attended by hundreds at the Eid prayer ground, was prompted by concerns from farmers about the adverse effects of the drought on crops, livestock, and agricultural activities.

Ibrahim Musa Dankoli, a 65-year-old farmer, reported that his maize and millet farms were suffering from the lack of rain, leaving farmers with limited options. Haruna Aliyu Basirka expressed anxiety among farmers as the dry spell coincided with a critical period in the agricultural season.

The prayer, known as Salatul Istisqa, was led by Chief Imam Sheikh Sanunu Basirka, who delivered a sermon emphasizing spiritual reflection and repentance. He encouraged residents to observe a voluntary fast on Monday as part of their efforts to seek divine intervention, underscoring the importance of sustained prayer beyond a single day.
