ASUU Sule Lamido University Issues Strike Ultimatum

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Sule Lamido University, Kafin Hausa Branch, has issued a two-week ultimatum to the Jigawa State Government to fully implement the 2025 ASUU-Federal Government agreement and pay all accrued arrears, or face industrial action from September 15, 2026. The union's demands include the payment of outstanding allowances, annual increments, promotion arrears, third-party deductions, and the release of the approved 2024/2025 Earned Academic Allowance.

This decision was made during a special congress held on September 1, 2026, where the union reviewed the implementation of the agreement. The union warned that failure to comply would lead to industrial action starting September 15.

Additionally, they requested exemption from the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System due to its incompatibility with the university's needs. Prof. Yusuf Chamo, the Jigawa State Commissioner for Higher Education, stated that the state government had recently received a memo from the National Universities Commission regarding the Federal Government agreement.
