Àjose Event Connects Film and Women's Health in Nigeria

The event "Àjose: The Stories That Bind Us" took place on January 19, 2023, in Lagos, Nigeria, aiming to foster informed and nuanced conversations around women's health and bodily autonomy. It featured the screening of "Silence Loud," a short film directed by Abba Makama, which received strong audience engagement by portraying the unspoken realities surrounding women's healthcare decisions and family dynamics.

The event included a preview of two major works, with contributions from Chika Okoli's documentary "Care Control" and Dr. Majek Ghost's animated series.

A live panel discussion titled "Care Control" brought together medical professionals, filmmakers, and cultural voices to examine the fine line between care and coercion in women's health experiences. Topics discussed included maternal mortality, medical ethics, safe and unsafe abortion, consent, and social pressures that limit women's agency in healthcare.

The event marked the beginning of a broader cultural engagement initiative by Àjose, with plans for the film's release on Zikoko's platform in February 2023.
