"Shades of Survival: A Call for Women's Health Equity"

The documentary "Shades of Survival," powered by the Adasi Foundation, premiered on Saturday at EbonyLife Place in Victoria Island, Lagos. Directed by British-Nigerian filmmaker David Ayeni, the film addresses the urgent crisis of breast cancer care among African women.

The event attracted influential audiences, including policymakers and health advocates, and emphasized the disparities in breast cancer diagnosis and outcomes between African women and their counterparts in high-income countries. The film features Victoria Ekanoy, a British-Nigerian actress and breast cancer survivor, who shares her personal journey navigating diagnosis while caring for her infant son.

The documentary aims to spark change and save lives, highlighting that the five-year survival rate for breast cancer is only 32% in Nigeria and 40% in South Africa, compared to around 90% in high-income countries. The Adasi Foundation's sponsorship underscores its commitment to advancing women's health and improving access to care, with plans for wider community screenings and educational campaigns.
