Six Nigerian Teachers Win $1,000 for Innovative Teaching

Six Nigerian teachers received $1,000 each at the 2026 Summer Fellowship for Innovative Teachers Award (SFIT) conference held at Kingsville Schools, Jahi, Abuja, for their creative contributions to classroom learning. The event was co-organized by the Murdock-Thompson Center for Teachers (M-TC) of the USA and the Intellectual Giants in Africa Foundation (INGAF).

The conference brought together various stakeholders in education under the theme "Championing Innovation in Africa: Honouring Teachers Who Shape the Future." INGAF Founder and Executive Director Amb. Emmanuel Idiagi stated that the award aims to restore dignity to the teaching profession and encourage educators to innovate.

He noted that approximately 30 teachers from Nigeria and Cote d'Ivoire have been recognized since the initiative's inception. Among the honorees was Mr. Victor Okonkwo, a Further Mathematics teacher, whose project "Smart Water Mathematics" focuses on efficient water resource management.

Other recipients included Nonso Ihejirika and Mrs. Eze Goodness Nnenaya, who expressed that the award reignited their passion for teaching.
