Judiciary, Legislature Under Tinubu’s Control – HURIWA

Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) issued a statement expressing concern over what they perceive as the control of the judiciary and legislature by Bola Tinubu. The group highlighted the collapse of judicial independence under Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat, and the political annexation of the National Assembly by the Presidency.

HURIWA pointed to the alleged political influence of the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, and the string of judicial victories enjoyed by the current administration, raising suspicions of compromise and collusion. The group criticized the Supreme Court for refusing to hear a case challenging the suspension of Rivers State governor, suggesting a lack of judicial impartiality.

HURIWA also accused the 10th National Assembly of openly displaying subservience to the President, citing Senate President Godswill Akpabio's statement as evidence. The group expressed concern over the erosion of public trust in the legal system due to perceived compromised judicial outcomes.
