ISWAP Commander Abdussamad Ohida Killed in Ondo Operation

A joint operation involving the Nigerian Army, Department of State Services (DSS), and the Western Nigeria Security Network, known as Amotekun, resulted in the death of senior ISWAP commander Abdussamad Ohida in Owo Forest, Ondo State. Ohida, also referred to as Anwar, was killed alongside other ISWAP members during an intelligence-led operation aimed at thwarting his plans to attack civilians during the upcoming Yuletide season and disrupt the 2027 general elections.
Previously, Ohida served as deputy to ISWAP Central Nigeria leader Abu Ikrimah, who was arrested by the DSS in 2023. Following Ikrimah’s arrest, Ohida took over ISWAP operations in North-Central and southern Nigeria, allegedly orchestrating numerous attacks, including the December 31, 2025, assault on the Ipele Divisional Police Station in Owo.
Intelligence from the interrogation of Abu Ikrimah aided in uncovering Ohida’s plans, which were corroborated by intelligence partners from the United Kingdom. His death is viewed as a significant setback for ISWAP's activities in the region.
