Amotekun Arrests 53 in Ondo for Self-Kidnapping Scheme

On Monday, Adetunji Adeleye, the Commander of the Amotekun Corps, announced the arrest of 53 suspects involved in various criminal activities across Ondo State. Among the arrests, four individuals were implicated in a self-kidnapping scheme that misled security agencies and the public through false social media reports.

One suspect, who reported the alleged kidnapping of his siblings, was found to be an accomplice and led authorities to the location of the supposed victim. The operation also resulted in the apprehension of individuals for offenses such as kidnapping, murder, cultism, rape, cattle rustling, impersonation, theft, and conspiracy.

Additionally, 21 suspected illegal immigrants were arrested in Owo for lacking proper ECOWAS travel documents and will be handed over to the Nigeria Immigration Service. The corps also disrupted a diesel theft syndicate involved in the diversion of petroleum products worth millions from a construction site in Akure.

Adeleye reiterated the corps' commitment to combating crime and urged residents to provide timely intelligence.
