Boko Haram Terrorist Sentenced to Death for 2015 Attack

On Friday, the Federal High Court in Abuja sentenced Boko Haram terrorist Alkali Yarima, also known as La Ari, to death for his involvement in the 2015 Maiduguri attack. Justice Jame Omotosho found Yarima guilty on seven counts of terrorism charges filed by the Federal Government.

The death sentence was imposed for the seventh count related to the Maiduguri attack, while Yarima received a life sentence for the sixth count concerning possession of arms and training for terrorist activities. He was also sentenced to 35 years for belonging to the proscribed Boko Haram group, 30 years for other related offenses, and 10 years for additional counts.

The charges stemmed from offenses committed between 2009 and 2015. The prosecution, led by Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice Lateef Fagbemi, reaffirmed the government's commitment to combating terrorism in Nigeria.
