Edo Indigene Don Pedro Obaseki to Take Legal Action Over Abduction and Assault

Don Pedro Obaseki, an Edo indigene, has announced his intention to seek legal redress following his alleged abduction, violent assault, and unlawful detention in Benin City on December 28, 2025. Obaseki described the incident as a grave violation of his fundamental rights and an act of terror.

Despite claims by the abductors that they were acting on instructions from the Oba of Benin's palace, the Benin Traditional Council publicly refuted these claims. Obaseki has engaged Femi Falana, a renowned human rights lawyer, to lead the civil and criminal proceedings in line with Nigerian and international law.
