Gas Truck Collision Causes Emergency Shutdown in Ilorin

On Wednesday at approximately 5:30 PM, a multiple-vehicle collision occurred on Ibrahim Taiwo Road near the Stadium Complex Gate in Ilorin, Kwara State. The incident involved a pickup truck loaded with 50kg cooking gas cylinders, a Lexus car, a Siena bus, and a commercial tricycle.

The collision resulted in the spillage of inflammable materials on the highway, prompting the Kwara State Fire Service to issue an emergency advisory. Public Relations Officer Hassan Adekunle stated that the presence of gas cylinders and leaked petroleum posed a significant safety risk to motorists and pedestrians.

Fire service personnel were deployed to contain the situation and prevent further danger. Motorists from Baboko, Surulere, Adewole, and surrounding areas were advised to avoid the affected section and use alternative routes.

The agency urged passersby to stay away from the crash scene to facilitate emergency operations. An update will be provided once the area is cleared and deemed safe for normal traffic.
