Governor Nyesom Wike Warns Striking Workers in FCT of Legal Action

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State issued a warning to striking workers in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to resume their duties following a court order halting the industrial action. The strike, which began on January 19 due to unresolved welfare issues, was accused of being hijacked by politicians for reasons beyond genuine labor concerns.

The FCT Administration (FCTA) had engaged workers in discussions but faced challenges as the strike escalated. Wike emphasized the need to uphold the rule of law and criticized the politicization of the strike.

He highlighted the FCTA's efforts to improve staff welfare, including a recently approved payment of 12 billion naira for January salaries. Wike also dismissed claims of chasing officials during the protest and warned against further disruptions to government operations.

Failure to comply with the court order to return to work would result in legal consequences. The strike, suspended following the court order, aimed to address welfare issues among FCT workers.
