NNPP Spokesman Ladipo Johnson Resigns Ahead of 2027 Elections

Ladipo Johnson announced his resignation from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) on May 4, 2026, in a letter addressed to the chairman of the NNPP ward G1 Shitta in Surulere Local Government Area, Lagos State. His resignation takes immediate effect and is part of ongoing political realignments in anticipation of the 2027 general elections.

Johnson expressed gratitude for the opportunities he had while serving at various levels within the party, particularly as the national auditor and later as the national public secretary. He emphasized the necessity for opposition forces to unite in response to the current political climate in Nigeria.

Although Johnson did not disclose his next political move, sources within the NNPP indicated he is expected to join the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) led by former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso. This move aligns with his longstanding political relationship with Kwankwaso, who is also working to unify opposition platforms ahead of the upcoming elections.
