Ladipo Johnson Resigns from NNPP Ahead of 2027 Elections

Ladipo Johnson announced his resignation from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in a letter dated May 4, 2026, addressed to the NNPP ward G1 chairman in Surulere Local Government Area, Lagos State. His decision to resign takes immediate effect and is motivated by a desire for a broader opposition realignment in anticipation of the 2027 general elections.

Johnson expressed gratitude for the opportunities he had to serve in various capacities, including as national auditor and later as national public secretary, describing his time in office as rewarding. He noted that his exit is driven by the need to contribute to a united opposition front, as the current political climate requires greater collaboration among opposition forces for national progress.

Although he has not officially announced his next political move, reports suggest he may align with an emerging opposition coalition linked to the Nigeria Democratic Congress, alongside figures such as former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso.
