Peter Obi Critiques Tinubu's Court Record Request

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the New Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2027 general elections, publicly criticized President Bola Tinubu regarding reports that the presidency sought to block access to certain records held by a foreign court. In a statement released on Monday, August 31, via his X handle, Obi expressed that he was "deeply saddened" by this development, labeling it "profoundly embarrassing" for a sitting president to request a foreign court to withhold records on matters of legitimate public concern.

He specifically pointed to questions surrounding educational qualifications, arguing that foundational schooling issues should not be left unresolved or addressed primarily through legal means, especially when documents had been submitted in official capacities previously. Obi asserted that true leadership requires confronting one's history rather than shielding it from scrutiny.

He urged Nigeria's political class to prioritize national interests over personal ambitions and emphasized the need for integrity, accountability, and ethical conduct in the highest office.
