Police Arrest Four Officers for Extorting ICPC Chairman

Four police officers from the Federal Capital Territory Police Command were arrested for allegedly extorting N53,000 from Dr. Musa Aliyu, the chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

The incident occurred during an unauthorized stop-and-search operation in the Banex area of Wuse, Abuja. The officers, described by Ahm Sanusi, the police commissioner, as "thieves," set up an illegal checkpoint and extorted the ICPC chairman without recognizing his identity.

They forced him to withdraw the money using a point-of-sale terminal, even charging him transaction fees. The police commissioner stated that the officers formed a gang to carry out these illegal activities and abandoned their official duties.

An investigation is ongoing, and the police command has vowed to punish the officers severely, including potential dismissal. Sanusi urged the public to report any incidents of extortion or misconduct by police personnel.
