Kabiru Gaya Loses Kano NDC Senatorial Ticket for 2027

Kabiru Ibrahim Gaya, a former senator representing Kano South, lost his bid to return to the Senate on the platform of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for the upcoming 2027 general elections. Gaya, who previously served in the Senate from 2007 to 2023, had defected to the NDC after a stint with the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

The confirmation of his loss was made by Mansur Kurugu, spokesperson for the Kwankwasiyya Movement, who announced that Alkasim Ibrahim Batayya emerged as the consensus candidate during a meeting held at Miller Road in Kano. Gaya has accepted the decision and pledged to support Batayya in the upcoming elections.

The consensus meeting will continue until a candidate is finalized, bypassing the need for primary elections. Gaya's defeat is seen as a significant political setback, especially as Batayya prepares to contest against incumbent Kawu Sumaila, who has already confirmed his candidacy with the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
