Kaigama Calls for Accountability and Youth Employment Focus

During a homily at the opening mass of the first 2026 plenary assembly of the Catholic Bishop Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) in Abuja, Rev. Ignatius Kaigama called on Nigerian leaders to prioritize accountability and the common good over personal and partisan interests.

He expressed concern over the plight of Nigerian youth, noting that many highly qualified graduates are struggling to find employment. Kaigama advised the youth to demand accountability from political leaders and expressed hope for the 2027 general elections to be free from past irregularities.

He advocated for the full deployment of modern electronic systems to ensure that votes reflect the genuine will of the people. Additionally, he highlighted the importance of unity among Christians and Muslims, especially during the overlapping periods of Lent and Ramadan.

The plenary assembly, which drew bishops from across the country, is expected to conclude on February 25, with discussions on the church's role in national development.
