Kano Governor Yusuf Receives UK Literacy Award

Governor Yusuf of Kano was honored with a UK Literacy Award conferred by Universal Learning Solutions (ULS) during a ceremony at Stationers’ Hall in London, marking the 20th anniversary of the Jolly Phonics programme in Africa. The award was accepted on behalf of Governor Yusuf by Emir of Kano Muhammadu Sanusi II, who attended the event with education experts and policymakers.

The award acknowledges Governor Yusuf's commitment to education, particularly his administration's allocation of 30% of the state budget to the sector, one of the highest in Nigeria. This investment has led to reforms aimed at enhancing access to quality education and improving literacy outcomes.

Emir Sanusi II emphasized education's role in social and economic transformation and advocated for collaboration to ensure every child has access to literacy. Gary Foxcroft, ULS Co-Founder and CEO, praised Governor Yusuf's leadership and the potential of integrating Almajiri children into literacy programs, reaffirming ULS's commitment to supporting educational initiatives in Kano.
