Kano State Launches Five-Year Rural Development Plan

The Kano State Government, led by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, has launched a five-year Rural Development Plan aimed at transforming rural communities and reducing poverty by 40% by 2030. This initiative was unveiled at the Kano State Rural Sustainable Community Development Summit held at the Government House.

The plan, which covers all 44 local government areas and 484 wards in Kano State, follows extensive field research involving 300 communities and 9,000 households. Key areas of investment include healthcare, education, agriculture, rural roads, water supply, sanitation, and climate resilience.

The implementation framework is set to begin in 2026, with quick impact projects in 2027, infrastructure expansion in 2028 and 2029, and full consolidation by 2030. The government aims to fund the plan through allocations from state and local governments, federal interventions, and contributions from development partners and communities.

Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, and other stakeholders emphasized the importance of prioritizing policies in agriculture, education, and infrastructure to drive sustainable rural development.
