Kano Residents Struggle with Heatwave and Power Issues

Residents of Kano State, Northern Nigeria, are facing severe challenges due to an ongoing heatwave and erratic electricity supply, which they describe as crippling for their socio-economic activities. Rekiya Aliyu noted that this year's heat has been unusually intense, starting earlier than expected, with no relief during the cold season of Ramadan.

The extreme temperatures have made daily life difficult, affecting health and productivity. Salma Usman, a housewife, reported that the heat has caused her children to suffer from heat rash, while Yusufa Abdullahi, a bricklayer, mentioned that the heat disrupts sleep and work.

Teacher El Abalaka described the overwhelming heat and unstable electricity supply as worsening hardships, forcing households to rely on costly alternatives like generators. Matilda Udo, a producer of natural drinks, stated that the harsh weather and poor power supply have negatively impacted her business, while student Sarah King noted that the heat slows down her work in fashion design.

Residents are appealing to the federal government for improved electricity supply to boost socio-economic activities.
