Kano State Suspends Malaria Programme for Investigation

The Kano State Government has suspended all activities under the Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention programme and established a high-level committee to investigate its implementation. The programme's manager has been suspended with immediate effect, and responsibilities have been transferred to the most senior officer pending the investigation's outcome.

This decision was announced in a statement by Nabilusi Abubakar, Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Ministry of Health. The Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention programme aims to provide antimalarial medicines to eligible children during the rainy season to reduce malaria-related illnesses and deaths.

The investigative committee, chaired by Dr Usman Bashir, Director-General of the Kano State AIDS Control Agency, includes heads of key health institutions. The ministry has also directed relevant stakeholders to report to its headquarters with necessary documentation for verification.

The review aims to enhance transparency and service delivery in health programmes in Kano State.
