Kano Task Force Issues Warning on Drug Trafficker Interference

Muhuyi Magaji Rimingado, Chairman of the Kano State Joint Task Force on Drug Abuse, Illicit Drug Trafficking and Gang-Related Violence, issued a warning against any interference in the committee's operations regarding the release of arrested drug traffickers, users, or gang members. He stated that individuals, including politicians, who attempt to exert pressure or influence for the release of suspects will be publicly named.

Rimingado emphasized that such actions undermine the state's efforts to combat drug-related issues. This warning was made during a press conference in Kano.

He also highlighted that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf had declared a statewide public health emergency on substance abuse on July 22, leading to the formation of the multi-agency committee. The committee's mandate includes combating illicit drug trafficking, rehabilitating victims, and prosecuting offenders.

Rimingado expressed confidence that addressing the root causes of drug abuse would enhance public safety and reduce criminal activities, particularly gang-related violence known as Daba.
