Kano State to Establish New Military Bases Against Banditry

Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has announced that the Federal Government will establish additional military bases in local government areas of Kano due to recent armed banditry infiltrations. The announcement follows a meeting held on September 5, 2026, involving the governor, the 44 Local Government Council chairmen, the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Muhammad Taju Usman, and the Accountant-General of the state.

The meeting focused on security, infrastructure, and human capital development, leading to a resolution to strengthen the state's security architecture. Governor Yusuf has already met with the Minister of Defence to discuss the new military bases, which will complement existing security measures, including the Nigeria Police Force, Neighbourhood Watch, and Forest Guards.

The initiative aims to enhance rapid response to threats and protect communities. Additionally, the meeting resolved to improve infrastructure and healthcare services across the state.
