Kano State Leads 2026 NECO Results with Record Candidates

Kano State has been recognized as the leading state in the 2026 National Examinations Council (NECO) results, with 74,413 candidates obtaining at least five credits, including English Language and Mathematics. This achievement places Kano ahead of Lagos State, which had 72,496 candidates, and Oyo State, with 55,543 candidates.

This marks the second consecutive year that Kano has topped the NECO performance chart in this category, having also achieved the highest number in 2025. Governor Abba Yusuf credited the state's success to investments in the education sector, emphasizing the government's commitment to funding, improving learning facilities, and providing scholarships.

In 2026, Kano State allocated N405.35 billion to education, representing approximately 27.4% of its N1.479 trillion budget, an increase of about N237 billion from 2025. The state government has also focused on reducing financial barriers for students from low-income households, spending over N4.4 billion in 2026 to sponsor candidates for the Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE).
