INEC Records 2.97 Million New Voters Ahead of Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced that as of July 17, 2026, a total of 2,970,257 eligible Nigerians had registered to vote in the final phase of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise. Of these, 970,865 (33.79%) registered online, while 2,000,092 (66.21%) registered physically.

Women represented 1,561,765 (52.57%) of registrants, and men accounted for 1,409,192 (47.43%). The largest group of registrants was young Nigerians aged 18 to 34 years, totaling 2,003,183 (67.43%).

Kano State led with 234,305 new registrations, followed by Lagos (140,546) and Edo (139,313). The registration process will end on July 26, 2026, with no further extensions planned.

INEC will display the Register of Voters for claims and objections from July 23 to July 29, 2026. The figures are preliminary and subject to verification through the Automated Biometric Identification System (ABIS).
