Renowned Lawyer Prof Alfred Kasunmu Passes Away at 92

Professor Alfred Bandele Kasunmu, SAN, a prominent Nigerian lawyer and legal scholar, died peacefully at the age of 92 in the early hours of Sunday, August 9, 2026. His death was announced by Olumide Ajomale, the Global President of the Baptist Academy Old Students Association, representing the association’s National Executive Council.

Kasunmu was highly regarded for his significant contributions to the Nigerian legal profession, education, and national development. He was a member of the Baptist Academy Class of 1953 and served as a trustee of the Baptist Academy Old Students Association.

The association expressed gratitude for his life, describing his passing as the end of an era for one of its most distinguished alumni. Kasunmu was honored with the BAOSA Order of Excellence Award in 2025 during the association’s 170th Founders Day celebration, recognizing his longstanding connection with the institution and his impactful career.

He was celebrated for embodying the values of integrity, discipline, scholarship, and service throughout his life.
