Kebbi Senator Garba Maidoki Defects to ADC from APC

Senator Garba Maidoki, representing Kebbi South, has officially defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC). Maidoki, who serves as the chairman of the Senate Committee on Legislative Compliance and is the vice chairman of the Senate Committee on Information, announced his decision in a letter addressed to Senate President Godswill Akpabio during Tuesday's plenary session.

He cited ongoing internal crises within the APC, particularly stemming from the recent primaries in Kebbi State, as a significant factor in his decision. Maidoki stated that he consulted extensively with his constituents before making this move, believing that the ADC aligns more closely with the interests of his district.

In response, Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau appealed to Maidoki to reconsider his decision, arguing that the issues within the Kebbi APC could be resolved. However, Maidoki declined the appeal, having already made up his mind to leave the party.

His defection adds to the growing number of politicians leaving the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections amid dissatisfaction with the party's internal disputes.
