KEDCO Addresses Power Outage in Eight Kano LGs

The Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) announced a power outage affecting eight local government areas in Kano State, attributing the issue to a transmission capacity deficit. This problem arose from a fault on the 40MVA 132/33KV power transformer at the 132KV Kwanar-Dangora Transmission Substation.

KEDCO informed customers in Kura, Garun Malam, Kiru, Karaye, Rogo, Bebeji, Tudun Wada, and Doguwa that the outage was due to the transformer’s primary and secondary circuit breakers tripping, which was triggered by multiple protection indications. The affected transformer has been isolated, and the matter has been referred to the Transmission Company of Nigeria maintenance team for repairs.

KEDCO is currently working to procure and replace the affected earthing transformer to restore normal power supply. The company is collaborating with the Transmission Company of Nigeria and other stakeholders to minimize the impact of the outage and explore alternative supply options until repairs are completed.
