Albert Korir Banned for Five Years Due to Doping

Albert Korir, a 32-year-old Kenyan marathoner and former winner of the New York City Marathon, has received a five-year ban for doping violations. He tested positive for CERA, a substance related to EPO that enhances blood-boosting capabilities.

The Athletics Integrity Unit confirmed Korir's results from three tests conducted in October 2025. As a consequence of this violation, Korir will be disqualified from all competitions, including his third-place finish at the New York City Marathon in November 2025.

His suspension will be effective until January 7, 2031. The ban reflects the seriousness of the doping violation, despite Korir's previous accolades, including winning the New York City Marathon in 2021 and finishing as a runner-up in 2019 and 2023, establishing him as one of Kenya's notable long-distance runners.
