Albert Korir Banned for Five Years Over Doping Admission

Albert Korir, a 32-year-old Kenyan athlete and former winner of the New York Marathon, has received a five-year ban from competition after admitting to doping violations. He tested positive for CERA, a modern variant of EPO, across three competitions in October 2025.

As a result, all his results from October 2025 will be disqualified, including his third-place finish in the New York Marathon last November. The Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) has confirmed that Korir's ban will expire on January 7, 2031.

He received a one-year reduction in his ban for admitting to the violation, which constitutes clear evidence of his use of prohibited substances on multiple occasions. Korir previously won the New York Marathon in 2019 with a time of two hours, eight minutes, and 22 seconds and finished third again in 2023.

This incident follows a similar case involving Ruth Chepngetich, the women's marathon world record holder, who was also banned for anti-doping rule violations.
