Ondo Community Concerned Over Kidnapping Prosecution Delays

Residents of Ode-Irele, the headquarters of Irele Local Government Area in Ondo State, are expressing concern over the delay in prosecuting suspects linked to the kidnapping of Mrs. Morenike Falona, wife of businessman Chief Babatunde Falona.

She was abducted on June 15, 2026, during an armed invasion of her home and was rescued three days later through a joint operation involving security agencies and local community members. Following her rescue, four suspects were arrested and transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Akure.

However, weeks later, the suspects have not been publicly identified or arraigned, leading to fears among residents that justice may not be served. Sir Rufus Falona, a community leader, urged the Commissioner of Police to expedite the investigation.

In response, ASP Jimoh Abayomi, the State Police Public Relations Officer, stated that the investigation is ongoing and that confidentiality is necessary to avoid compromising operations, assuring that the suspects would be charged once investigations are concluded.
