Amnesty International Targets Senator Fadahunsi Over Violence

Amnesty International Nigeria announced a global campaign against Senator Francis Fadahunsi, who represents the East Senatorial District, for allegedly making inciting comments ahead of the August 15, 2026, Osun governorship election. Isa Sanusi, the Country Director of Amnesty International Nigeria, stated that the organization would publicize Fadahunsi's remarks in about 150 countries to hold political actors accountable for inflammatory rhetoric.

Sanusi emphasized that such advocacy of hatred and incitement to violence violates both international and Nigerian laws. The Osun State Police Command has invited Fadahunsi for questioning regarding statements made during a political gathering in Ilesa, as captured in a viral video.

The police's invitation, dated August 11, 2026, requests the senator to explain his remarks at an APC campaign event, which are considered threatening and inciting. The controversy intensified after Fadahunsi allegedly urged supporters to attack members of the Accord Party.
