Kogi State Governor Usman Ododo Disburses N646.8m Bursary
Kogi State Governor Usman Ododo initiated the disbursement of N646.8 million as bursary allowances to 20,347 verified students in tertiary institutions during the "Gov. Ododo Students Support Season 2" event held at the Banquet Hall, Government House, Lokoja.
The Executive Chairman of the Kogi State Scholarship Board, Afolabi Joseph-Raji, announced a revival of the bursary scheme, which had not been paid since 2019, with a 150% increase in allowances starting in 2024. Under this scheme, the allowance for each student increased from N12,000 to N30,000, while medical students' allowances rose from N18,000 to N75,000.
The first payment tranche of N403 million will cover 13,157 students in Kogi State, with subsequent payments for students in over 300 institutions outside the state. New initiatives to enhance student engagement were also introduced, including quiz challenges.
The Commissioner for Education, Wemi Jones, praised the increase in verified beneficiaries from 8,000 to over 20,000.
