Kogi Government Orders Probe into Murder of Priest

Samuel Opeyemi, a priest from St. Paul Parish, Ayetoro Gbede, Ijumu LGA, Kogi State, was discovered dead along Church Road in Ajaokuta on July 29, 2026, with multiple machete wounds.

Residents found his body on the morning of July 30, 2026, and the Kogi State Police Command confirmed the report later that evening. The police noted severe machete cuts to his head, and his body was taken to ASCL Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The Kogi State Government, led by Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, expressed profound sadness over the murder, condemning it as a "painful tragedy." In a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Femi Fanwo, the government assured that justice would be served and urged residents to provide credible information to assist in the investigation. The police are currently investigating the case to apprehend those responsible for the killing.
