Kogi ISPON Enforces Road Restrictions for Heavy Trucks

The Kogi State chapter of the Institute of Safety Professionals of Nigeria (ISPON) has issued a warning to heavy-duty truck and trailer operators against using roads not designated for such vehicles, with enforcement actions set to begin on August 31. Elder Friday Sani Makama, the ISPON chairman and State Consultant on Safety Standard Regulations and Compliance, announced this during a press briefing in Lokoja.

The warning follows repeated violations of road safety regulations and significant damage to public infrastructure caused by heavy trucks on restricted routes. Recent inspections revealed persistent violations along Meme/Barracks Road, where heavy vehicles have been operating despite restrictions.

Makama emphasized that this road is not designed for heavy-duty vehicles and directed operators to use House of Assembly Road, which can accommodate such traffic. He expressed concern over the safety risks posed by continued violations and announced that any heavy truck or trailer found using the restricted road will be arrested starting August 31.

Makama urged transport unions and stakeholders to ensure compliance with safety regulations.
