Kogi Polytechnic Suspends Lecturers Over Misconduct

Kogi Polytechnic's Public Relations Officer, John Amos Onimisi, announced the suspension of seven lecturers due to serious allegations of misconduct. Six lecturers were suspended on July 22, 2026, for the unauthorized sale of handouts and textbooks, while one lecturer faced suspension for alleged sexual harassment.

The institution's disciplinary committee has begun investigations into these allegations and will release its findings upon completion. Students have raised concerns about a resurgence of cultism and a "sex-for-marks" culture, claiming that some lecturers are demanding sexual favors from female students in exchange for passing grades, threatening those who refuse.

Reports indicate that female students in the Departments of Public Administration and Graphic Design have been pressured to either comply or pay between N70,000 and N80,000 to pass their exams. Additionally, students noted a decline in adherence to the institution's disciplinary standards, including dress codes and identity card policies, alongside the re-emergence of handout sales, previously banned by management.
