Kogi Poly Suspends Seven Lecturers Over Misconduct

Kogi State Polytechnic in Lokoja has suspended seven lecturers due to allegations of misconduct, including sexual harassment and cult activities. The suspensions come amid concerns raised by students about a decline in disciplinary measures following the appointment of a new rector.

Students reported that some lecturers demanded sexual favors or money in exchange for grades, with claims of demands ranging from ₦70,000 to ₦80,000. One student alleged that a lecturer instructed her to book a hotel room for a meeting.

Complaints also included a resurgence of cult activities on campus and a significant increase in school fees. The institution's Public Relations Officer, Mr.

John Onimisi, confirmed that six lecturers were suspended for unauthorized sales of handouts and textbooks, while another was suspended for sexual harassment. He stated that a disciplinary committee is investigating the allegations, but did not address the cult activity claims.

Students have appealed to Governor Usman Ododo for intervention, citing deteriorating academic standards.
