Kogi State Launches Gemstone and Jewellery Program

Kogi State is initiating a program to establish itself as a global hub for gemstone and jewellery production, as disclosed by Hon. Sundai Falek during the official commencement of the youth mining and jewellery craftsmanship empowerment program.

This initiative, part of Governor Usman Ododo's vision, aims to equip young people with practical skills to create jobs and encourage entrepreneurship, thereby unlocking the state's economic potential. The program includes a robust monitoring and evaluation framework to ensure beneficiaries can translate their acquired knowledge into viable business capabilities.

Governor Ododo's commitment to youth development and economic transformation is underscored by the program's design, which aims to combat illegal mining and empower indigenous youth. The program has attracted 16,000 applicants from Nigeria and other African countries, reflecting significant interest.

Dr. Olushola Awujuola from Malivelihood Luxuri noted that this initiative is the first of its kind in Nigeria and West Africa, aiming to develop professional skills for transforming gemstones into high-value jewellery products.
