Kogi Governor Partners with NIWA to Boost Waterways Economy

Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has pledged his administration's support for the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) to transform the state's waterways into a hub for jobs and trade. During a courtesy visit from NIWA Chairman Mukhtar Shehu Shagari and Managing Director Yusuf Umar Girie, Ododo emphasized Kogi's strategic location at the confluence of the Niger and Benue Rivers, which positions it as a key player in Nigeria's Blue Economy.

He expressed commitment to harnessing the potential of the waterways to stimulate sustainable economic growth, investment, and employment, aligning with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda. Ododo assured NIWA of institutional support for projects aimed at enhancing river transport infrastructure and attracting private investment.

Shagari highlighted the need for collaboration to unlock the economic value of Kogi's waterways, focusing on developing jetties, dredging channels, and improving security. Both parties expressed optimism that their partnership would accelerate infrastructure delivery and enhance regional trade.
