Kwankwaso Condemns Blockade of Obi's Convoy in Benue

Rabiu Kwankwaso, the Vice Presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress, condemned the blockade of Peter Obi's convoy during his journey to Benue State. In a post on his official X handle on Tuesday, Kwankwaso described the incident as a threat to democracy and urged the Benue State Government to identify and prosecute those responsible.

He characterized the alleged mobilization of people to block Obi's convoy as a “dark day for our democracy,” emphasizing that the Constitution guarantees every citizen the right to freedom of movement. Kwankwaso called on the Benue State Government to ensure the safety and free movement of Obi and his entourage.

He also urged the President to caution state governors against actions that could undermine democracy. The blockade occurred when protesters, chanting “We don’t want Peter Obi,” obstructed Gboko Road in Makurdi, disrupting traffic for hours.

Obi stated he was in Benue to condole with victims of killings but was stopped on government orders, labeling the blockade as unacceptable.
