Kwankwaso Defends Obi, Demands Fair Trial for El-Rufai

Rabiu Kwankwaso, a prominent figure in the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), issued a statement on Thursday defending Peter Obi, the party's presidential candidate, and demanding a fair trial for Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, who is currently in detention. Kwankwaso expressed concerns regarding the safety of Obi and insisted that El-Rufai should be accorded due process in line with constitutional provisions.

He criticized the Federal Government for dismissing legitimate concerns and emphasized that every Nigerian, including presidential candidates, deserves full protection from the state. Kwankwaso also condemned the stringent conditions placed on El-Rufai's bail, arguing that he has not been convicted of any offense and deserves a fair and speedy trial.

Furthermore, he warned against using state institutions to settle political disputes, asserting that democracy thrives when all citizens receive equal treatment under the law.
